"Be so tolerant that your bosom becomes wide like the ocean. Become inspired with faith and love of human beings. Let there be no troubled souls to whom you do not offer a hand, and about whom you remain unconcerned."

Reception and Book Signing Event

The Foundation for Inter-Cultural Dialogue (FID) welcomes Dr. B. Jill Carroll to talk about her latest book: "A Dialogue of Civilizations." Dr. Jill Carroll is the associate director for the Boniuk Center for the Study and Advancement of Religious Tolerance at Rice University, as well as an associate adjunct professor in Religious Studies.

In "A Dialogue of Civilizations," Jill Carroll explores the points where the ideas of Fethullah Gulen (a Turkish Islamic Scholar, whose ideas have been a source of inspiration for the establishment of FID) find echo in the context of the larger humanities. Carroll portrays a fuller understanding of Gulen's thought on issues of inherent human value and dignity, freedom of thought, education, and taking responsibility for creating society and the world. Dr. Carroll establishes a textual dialogue between the works of Gulen and texts of Confucius, Plato, Immanuel Kant, John Stuart Mill and Jean Paul Sarte. Please join us for the reception and the book signing event.
